A reader recently wrote to put this on our radar:

“When I was in Winter Park, Florida last summer, my sister and brother-in-law took us out to The Wine Room. You buy a wine card with a certain amount of money on it and you can walk around the ‘room’ to the dispensers that sell different tastes of wines for different prices. It was cool because the tastes were affordable, even for the more expensive wines, without having to commit to a whole glass. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly. Anyway, it was different than just your usual go-and-have-a-glass-of-wine-at-a-bar experience.”

“Cool” might be as much of an understatement as “room,” if she was referring to the Rare Room, a spectacular space walled with over 600 of the most rare and celebrated wines. Or maybe she was talking about the Vault, of the large walk-in variety, and outfitted with TVs and other various A/V equipment for extra-special company meetings.

There is also a locker room where you can store your own stash.

Because man and woman cannot live on wine alone, The Wine Room does a brilliant job with cheeses and desserts. Fromage flight, anyone?

Prices seem fair enough, and the reviews are great. We especially love how one woman describes it as “something right out of Willy Wonka,” and another fellow poetically exclaims, “I can’t believe I didn’t come up with this f-ing amazing idea first!!!!”

There you have it.
