We’ve talked a lot about how women are becoming major players in the brewing world, and it doesn’t look like they will be slowing down any time soon. However, a new survey is showing that if you want to be a guy’s “dream woman,” you should probably put down that bottle of beer.

Wist, a personalized dining app for iPhone, surveyed men about what their dream woman would hopefully be drinking on a date with them. The results? We thought you’d never ask.

  • Wine – 35 percent
  • Specialty cocktail – 26 percent
  • Beer – 18 percent
  • Well drink, like rum and Coke – 15 percent
  • A shot – 1 percent

Okay, we don’t know who these guys are or where they’re from, but we’re calling B.S. on this one. If we had a dollar for every time we heard a guy say something like, “My dream woman would be a girl who hangs out and drinks beer with me,” we’d could buy a round for the whole bar and then some.

In a story we saw in The Gazette, writer Stephanie Earls talked to Ben Jackson, general manager at The Ritz in Colorado Springs, who has served drinks to couples on dates for 18 years. Jackson’s take on the survey results was:

“A cocktail just looks more ladylike. It’s still booze, you’re still drinking, but it just looks better (than beer)…I certainly see ladies drink more wine and martinis. I think it has a lot to do with calories, and cocktails can be gluten-free. It’s all about the way you’re perceived. If we served beer in a fancier glass.”

Okay, Mr. Jackson has a point about perception. We think there are still a lot of stereotypes surrounding certain drink choices and the guys who answered the survey were just going on their gut instincts. Wine? Oh, she must be hot and classy. Beer? She probably wears her sweatpants to the bar.

But what about a hot, classy girl with a beer in her hand? It may be difficult for them to think of right away, but something tells us if that had been an option on the survey, things may have turned out a little differently.
