We had the pleasure of talking with the Hoosier Momma herself. We’re pretty stoked to try her all-natural, vegan and gluten-free Bloody Mary mix.

Seems as though the “Bloody Mary in a Bag” makes it easy for the amateur mixologist, any additional tips for making the perfect Hoosier Momma Bloody Mary?

I think proper ratio is very important. This is a great example of “Stronger isn’t always better”. Our mix has such great flavors that it’s a shame to mask it with an overpour of vodka. I like a 3:1 ratio. I also prefer it with an unflavored vodka. Try the finished cocktail before you start doctoring it, like you shouldn’t salt your food before you taste it.

The fact that it’s vegan/gluten-free is a huge bonus, is there anything else that sets Hoosier Momma apart from other mixes?

Our mix contains no high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. It’s much thicker than a traditional bloody mary mix, so it stands up to a hot day and lots of ice.

We’re always up for unique concoctions. Any recommendations for incorporating Hoosier Momma ingredients in other drinks and/or dishes?

It makes a great chili, gazpacho, vegetable soup or sauce for slow cooking roasts or stews. Cocktail variations: Bloody Bettie (with Gin), Blue Collar Bettie (with a light ale, like a “red beer”), or a Dirty Marytini served up with a little olive juice.

Couldn’t help but notice the “Coming Soon” section. Can you give us a sneak peek or some insider details on what to expect with Strawberry Rhubarbarita, Lavender Lemondrop and Barkeeper Margarita?

Next in the hopper are a couple more bloody mary flavors. I’m hoping to have a Spicy Caribbean Jerk and a Horseradish Habanero out by the middle of January. The other cocktail mixes will be available early spring. The Strawberry Rhubarbarita is a sweet and sour margarita mix made with locally grown strawberries and rhubarb. The Lavender Lemondrop is great with rum, or vodka and has a locally grown culinary lavender. The Beekeeper Margarita is our “traditional” margarita mix but it incorporates honey harvested on our farm, with orange blossom and honeysuckle.
