kool-aid

Kool-Aid is the best, isn’t it? Whether you are eight or 80 years old, there is something about that wonderful powdered drink that makes summer extra special. Kool-Aid knows this, which is why every year, they host a weekend-long event called the Kool-Aid Days Festival to celebrate its greatness. And guess what? The festival is this weekend! You may not be able to make it to the actual festival, but you can certainly mark the occasion with a cocktail or two at home. Try one of these grown-up cocktail versions of your favorite drink from your childhood.

Blue Crystal Cocktail

Are you still crying yourself to sleep because Breaking Bad is over? Reflect back on your favorite TV show as you sip on this Breaking Bad-themed Kool-Aid cocktail.

  • First, you need to make blue syrup. Just combine 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of water, and 1 tsp. of blue (Mixed Berry) Kool-Aid in a pan. Stir over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  • Then, in a medium-sized glass with ice, add 1 1/2 oz. vodka, 1 1/2 oz. of the blue syrup, and 4-6 oz. club soda. Stir it up and squeeze in the juice of one lime.
  • Add a stick of blue rock candy for garnish.

Instant Kool-Aid Sangria

If you don’t have any fruit on-hand, but you’re really craving some sangria, Kool-Aid comes to the rescue with this easy recipe. Of course, you can always add some fruit as well and make it extra great.

  • In a large pitcher, combine the following ingredients: 2 bottles of your favorite red wine, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 packet unsweetened lemon-lime Kool-Aid, and 1 packet unsweetened orange Kool-Aid.
  • Stir everything up and serve the sangria over ice.

Super-Soldier Serum

The blogger who created this drink originally made it for the 4th of July, but with Labor Day coming up in a few weeks, we think this would work perfectly at a backyard barbecue.

  • In a large pitcher, combine the following ingredients: 12 oz. coconut rum (like Malibu), 8 oz. marshmallow vodka (like Smirnoff Fluffed Marshmallow), 8 oz. cold water, 4 oz. simple syrup, and 1 packet Cherry Kool-Aid powder.
  • Stir and serve chilled with coconut ice. (To make coconut ice, just pour canned coconut milk into your ice tray and freeze!)
