Malibu has officially entered the dessert spirits world. The rum brand introduced their latest flavors on Monday: Malibu Sundae and Malibu Swirl. You know how we feel about confectionary inspired spirits and these are no exception.
Malibu Sundae is a combo of classic Malibu coconut and chocolate ice cream flavor. Match made in heaven? We think not. And its super sweet counterpart isn’t much better. Malibu Swirl features a strawberries and whipped cream flavor. We have a cavity just thinking about it.
Both dessert rums (is that really a category now?) will be available at the end of this month for $14.99 a bottle. Don’t expect to see us in line for them.
Would you drink dessert-flavored rum?
I would definitely try it over ice cream or better yet a little drizzle over pound cake and then top with ice cream. My favorite cake out of all is Italian Rum Cake, from South Philly.
Bought the sundae rum on clearance for $8 over the weekend. The sundae float recipe on the back of the bottle is actually really good! 1 part chocolate ice cream rum, 2 parts cola, served in a glass over a scoop of ice cream (I had coffee on hand, still good). You could also substitute the ice cream for a “twist of lime” (I use about a half-ounce of bottled lime juice). I prefer it over the ice cream.
