ron burgundy scotch

We’re about to let you in on Hollywood’s most recent best kept secret…there’s going to be an Anchorman 2 movie coming out.

Wait, you knew already?

Oh yeah, we forgot that this movie is one of the most overmarketed movies of all time. We’re surprised they haven’t invented an Anchorman-themed toilet paper yet, though we have no doubt it will be coming soon to a “Toilet Store” near you.

Ron Burgundy hasn’t been on the big screen since 2004, so we get that there’s a lot of excitement before the movie hits theaters December 18. From the new Ben & Jerry’s flavor “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” to the pretty funny Dodge commercials starring Mr. Burgundy himself, this movie’s promo team is in overdrive. The main product that we’ve zeroed in on, however, is obviously drinking related.

Ron is known for his love of scotch, so it’s not very surprising that there is actually a scotch being released that ties into the movie. It’s being marketed as Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whisky and has the name “Great Odin’s Raven.” The special reserve scotch is being shipped out by Riviera Imports and they say it “is not a novelty – it is a fine Scotch product more than comparable in quality to other blended Scotches at its price point.”

Sure it is.

Anyway, it is crafted and bottled in Scotland from a 60% malt and 40% grain blend by Old St. Andrews Distillery. Riviera Imports assures us that Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whisky is produced for budding Scotch connoisseurs and traditional Scotch enthusiasts alike. Suggested retail price is $25.

While we are clearly skeptical as to how good this Scotch is, we’ll withhold our final judgment until we get our hands on a bottle. Our guess is that it is decent, but nothing that’s going to score a permanent spot in our liquor cabinet.

What do you think? Have you tried “Great Odin’s Raven” yet? Did it make you grow a sweet moustache just like Ron Burgundy?
