11-things-to-do-in-austin-this-may

As the summer season quickly approaches we look forward to partaking in any activity we can outdoors, which most definitely includes sipping on cocktails and enjoying a heaping scoop of our favorite ice cream. If you happen to be down in Austin, TX tomorrow afternoon you can kill the two birds with one stone!

Two homegrown Austin products, Genius Gin and Lick Honest Ice Cream, are teaming up to throw a fancy schmancy garden party at Métier Cook’s Supply. The duo will be serving up a Lemon Bitters Float and a Lime Gimlet, two exclusive cocktails that combine the local ice cream and gin to make up a concoction that sounds almost too good to be true!

Anthony Sobotik, Co Founder of Licks, and CEO of Genius Gin, Mike Groener have teamed up before in the past, making seasonal gin inspired ice cream available to the great state of Texas with flavors such as Lemon, Gin and Juniper, Blushing Blueberry and Plum Jam and Gin Cake. We can only hope this event is followed by the release of some new seasonal inspired flavors, and cross our fingers that they some day become available nationally!

The most exciting news of all is that the event is completely free and open to the public, a silver lining for gin fanatics and ice cream lovers purchasing their plane tickets as we speak. However, if you can’t swing a $$$ trip down to Texas for the event you can whip up one of the cocktails at home with this recipe the founders were kind enough to share!

Lemon Bitters Float
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz. Genius Gin
2-3 oz. Fever Tree Bitter Lemon Soda
1 scoop Lick Goat Cheese Thyme Vanilla Ice Cream

Directions: Spoon a scoop of Lick ice cream into a glass. Slowly pour the Genius Gin and lemon soda over it, accounting for the bubbles from the soda. Serve with a lemon swirl garnish. Recipe via austin360.com
