Let’s get one thing straight: tea soothes the soul. It’s warm, it’s calming, and it most definitely makes us realize that winter isn’t so bad after all. When we return home from a traitorous commute, frostbitten and traumatized, not knowing which way is which, a nice warm cup of tea is just what we need to ease back into reality.

And you know what? There’s a way to make that cup even better. That’s right you clever cat–add some booze. (Bet you didn’t see that one coming!)

So go ahead and take this hot tea cocktail recipe for a spin. It’s sure to warm you right up.

You’ll need:

2 tsp. maple syrup
1 whole piece of star anise
3 cloves
1 sachet Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea
1 cup hot water
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2 oz. dark rum
Slice of orange

Combine maple syrup, spices, and tea in a mug. Add hot water and let tea steep for 4–5 minutes, then remove the sachet. Add vanilla extract and rum. Squeeze the orange slice and drop it into the mug, then stir to combine.
