Tequila Vs. Mezcal

If you don’t know, now you know.

Made from only blue agave plant. Made from any of the 30 different agave plants.
Blue agave is baked in an above-ground oven. Agave is roasted or grilled over hot rocks inside in-ground pits.
Aged 2 months to 1 year. Aged 18 months to 3 years.
Silver tequila has a harsh, bold flavor. Gold
tequila is smoother, subtler flavor.
Has a smoky, sweet, rich flavor.
Can also be unaged or blanco.
Cocktail recommendation:
The Classic Margarita
3 oz. of Patron Anejo
2 oz. of fresh squeezed lime juice
1 oz. of simple syrup
1/2 – 1 tsp. of orange liqueur
Shake & serve on the rocks with salt.
Cocktail recommendation:
The Tia Mia
1 oz. of El Buho Mezcal
1 oz. of amber rum
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. curacao
1/2 almond syrup
Shake & serve on the rocks with lime and mint.

The Drinking in America team is a huge fan of whisky… or is it whiskey? We’re here to settle the debate.

No matter how you spell it, whisky/ey is an umbrella term for a type of spirit distilled from a mash of fermented grains. And underneath that umbrella are a few sub-categories, including bourbon, rye, Tennessee, Scotch, Irish, and Canadian style whiskies. Each type of whisky/ey is guided and regulated by the government of the spirit’s country of origin. Each one is unique in production, taste and use.
