After making us wait a few extra months, limited edition Captain Morgan Sherry Oak Cask Finish has finally hit shelves. And there’s quite the history lesson behind it.
In 2012, the Captain Morgan brand funded an expedition to learn more about the iconic pirate that flanks their bottles. Aka they went on a treasure hunt to find his missing ship. The goods they found (including a sword and part of a ship) were from Morgan’s historical sacking of Panama City in 1671. It’s only natural to celebrate pirate attacks with rum, right? And so, Captain Morgan Sherry Oak Cask Finish was born.
Channeling whiskey aging, the limited release rum has been resting in Sherry casks to enhance the spiced flavor (unfortunately nobody will tell us for how long). The result: the classic Captain Morgan taste with an extra hint of vanilla sweetness. The new rum will only be available for a short while. At $19.99, you can’t miss the bottle with a shiny (in our opinion, tacky) new label to honor the Captain.
