We thought the world would be over by now, so we didn’t really plan any blogs posts for today. Or ever again.

Hmm… well, this is awkward.

Ehh, the day isn’t technically over yet, so it really could come at any time. We don’t think the Mayans clued us in as to the time of day, so until then, we’ll probably have a few beers. Lucky for us (you know we love a good theme), a few breweries around the country have created special “end of the world” beers to commemorate the end of days. Go grab a 6-pack before the world explodes and make your last few hours on earth way more awesome.

Newport Storm Brewery in Newport, RI created a Mayan-themed beer called “The ’12!” They looked to that region for inspiration and native ingredients, like Blue Agave, Flaked Corn, Cocoa nibs, Chipotle and Habanero peppers. They say, “The dynamic of the soft and hot flavors is a fun way to enjoy what may very well be the last beer you ever taste.”

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company in Akron, OH cooked up “Mayan Last Dog” as their tribute to the end of the world. It’s a chocolate stout made with Mayan spices including chocolate nibs and honey. The brewery’s owner, John Najeway, said “If we get through the end of the world, I think we will have the rise of the Mayans and continue to brew this beer.”

Shock Top Brewing Company in Saint Louis, MO unleashed their beer, “End of the World.” It is brewed with midnight wheat, chocolate malt, chili and spices. The company says it “has a dark, rich color and delivers an indulgent flavor and sessionability, making it the perfect beer to celebrate the end of the world.”

If you don’t live near any of these breweries, there’s nothing wrong with picking up your absolute favorite beer to commemorate the date instead. Go buy something really expensive and classy – you won’t need to worry about it tomorrow anyway, right?
