For some, this is a question worthy of an arm wrestle. But the winner never really wins, because both American bourbon and Scotch whisky appeal to different crowds for different reasons.

 

American Bourbon by all estimations is no poor, Scottish cousin. It is reason enough to move to Kentucky and about as American as Detroit-born car.

 

Scotch whisky is revered for its complexities.

 

Is Scotch whisky superior because it has more history behind it? Is bourbon better because it is made in a warmer climate?

 

Like we said, there’s no right answer.

 

Most agree that it comes down to preference, price, availability — not necessarily in that order.

 

Then there’s Japanese Whisky. But that’s a conversation for another time.
