5 Reasons to Drink This Weekend

5 Reasons To Drink This Weekend / October 9, 2015 / No Comments.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Chuck E. Cheese: The children’s arcade is planning to expand their alcohol offerings for parents who can’t spend a sober afternoon with their children. There’s a rumored two drink max but if you aren’t driving, we won’t judge you for sneaking in a little extra.

2. Leif Erickson Day: The famous explorer’s day of recognition is today! Honor his memory by discovering new and exciting ways to get your drink on this weekend.

3. American Horror Story: The new season premiered this week loaded with creepy and beautiful celebrities. Lady Gaga, Max Greenfield, Matthew Bomer… The list goes on. Gaze at their chiseled abs and take comfort in knowing that you will never be invited to murder guests in Ryan Murphy’s hotel.

4. Domino’s Pizza: The discount pizza chain is opening up shop in Milan. Treat yourself to some authentic Italian cuisine in your oldest stained sweatpants this weekend.

5. Sports: This week marks the beginning of every sports fan’s favorite season. With the MLB Playoffs, the start of the NHL season, preseason NBA games, and the NFL comfortably underway the nights of settling for The Voice are long gone. Fill your fridge and cherish every minute of it.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Long Weekend: You’ve got three days of not working staring you right in the face. Accept the challenge.

2. Goodbye Dave: This weekend marks the first in a world that doesn’t have Letterman on TV. YouTube his greatest hits and take a drink for every time he makes you laugh.

3. Facebook: Their Messenger app just added a Caller ID function. Next time someone says “hi” you’ll see their occupation, location, and mutual friends. It’s cool in that creepy, Facebook-knows-more-about-you-than-you-ever-will kind of way.

4. You’re Old: In an interview this week, Maggie Gyllenhaal said she was told that she lost out in a role because she was too old to be the lover of a 55 year old man. Maggie is 37. Now would be a great time to invent a wine that doubles as anti-aging cream.

5. Grand Slam: The French Open begins this Sunday. Turn up the TV volume and give your nosy neighbors something to talk about.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Bill Simmons: ESPN announced that they won’t be renewing his contract at the end of September after spending 15 years together. Get a pint of ice cream and a big bottle of wine, this’ll be a tough breakup.

2. Google Search: Google now lets you order your dinner right from the search page, giving you even less time to actually consider what you’re putting in your body. Fill the fridge with beer, you’ll need to wash that pizza down with something.

3. Mother’s Day: Moms are great. Share a drink with yours and remember a time when she actually thought you were adorable.

4. Allergies: They’re calling it a Pollen Tsunami. Your nose will run, your eyes will itch, and your throat will scratch. Drink something to dull the pain.

5. Pirate’s Booty: After hundreds of years at the bottom of the sea, a diver in Madagascar found what appears to be treasure from the infamous Scottish pirate, Captain Kidd. We can’t even find our house keys after a night out.

Wine and Takeout Team up

Our Stories / February 21, 2015 / No Comments.

winepizzaSome days, we don’t feel all that fancy. During those times we’d like nothing more than to curl up on the couch with a glass of wine and order some tasty takeout food. Still, mixing and matching your dinner delivery with the ideal drink can be a problematic process—that’s where VinePair comes in handy. The website contains two practical food and wine pairing sections, one specifically for pizza and another for general takeout selections.

Say you plan on ordering a pizza. Simply navigate to VinePair’s Wine & Pizza Pairing App, enter your toppings (with options from asparagus to ziti) and wine preference (white or red), and the app will generate an answer for you. It will also explain why the suggested wine pairs nicely with your food, which is awesome. Even if you’re not into pizza, VinePair also offers an alternative app with a variety of different takeout meals to pick from. From Indian curry to buffalo wings, VinePair will create a complimentary combination.

So next time you find yourself ordering in, don’t just befriend any booze—consult VinePair and turn your takeout into a tasteful time.

There are some who believe that wine is to be enjoyed in between tastes of fine cuisine. There are others who will tell you that wine is for sweatpants and junk food. We belong to the second school of thought. If your idea of a wine night is catching up on your Netflix shows with your hand covered in artificial cheese dust then have we got the list for you:

Popcorn and Chardonnay: The popcorn brings out the buttery and toasty flavors in the Chardonnay that would otherwise go unnoticed as you drank straight from the bottle.

French Fries and Riesling: Balance out the acidity even though you can’t balance on two feet.

Pizza and Chianti: A juicy and light wine is the perfect match for the large pizza you’re planning to house all by yourself.

Cool Ranch Doritos and Rose: Just trust us on this one.

Sit back, gain weight, and get drunk.

PizzaandBeer

Pennsylvanians rejoice. Next time you call to order some pizza and wings you can add a 12-pack of beer to the list. A law was just passed to allow restaurants to deliver beer (no wine or liquor) to their customers.

The only catch is that you have to order over the phone and pay via credit card. We think that’s definitely worth cutting a trip to the liquor store out of your to-do list. They’re capping it at a 12-pack, so you won’t have enough to throw a wild party. But it should be enough to get you and a friend through the football game.

Some storeowners are worried about underage customers taking advantage of this service. One owner even expressed concern for his drivers, saying that they are now at a higher risk for robbery.

With apps like Drizly, we’re seeing alcohol delivery more and more. Here’s hoping that this trend keeps going strong so that our sweatpants can stay on.

Pizza & Beer, Match Made In Heaven

Our Stories / October 22, 2012 / 1 Comment.

Pairing menus are very popular in restaurants across the country, but often times they are for foodies who have very “mature” pallets. That’s super, but what about us simple folk that just like some beer and pizza? In honor of National Pizza Month, we’ve put together a quick list of pizzas and beers that are great on their own, but even better together.

Cheese Pizza + Pale Ale
A hoppy American pale ale is a great complement to the sweetness of the tomato sauce and the Italian spices. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a personal favorite.

Pepperoni or Sausage Pizza + Light Lager
A light lager, like Red Stripe, is going to go nicely with the cheese and tomato and it’s going to also calm down the spiciness of the pepperoni or sausage.

Veggie Pizza + Brown Ale
Since the vegetables caramelize in the oven, a brown ale (ahem Newcastle) has a malty flavor that works really well to bring all the tastes together.

Don’t worry about messing up and choosing the wrong beer – pizza and beer were meant to be enjoyed together, so there’s a good chance your taste buds will be happy no matter what.

PS. If you live anywhere near a Bertucci’s restaurant, they have a new menu called “The Art of Pairing: Pizza & Beer” which is right up our alley. They pair up their brick oven pizzas with Samuel Adams craft beer. You won’t find any basic cheese or pepperoni on this menu, though…
