Summertime Spirits Debuting this Season

Our Stories / July 6, 2014 / No Comments.

Three-Olives-Vodka-Apple As we dive deeper into the depths of the summer season, we know we’re not the only ones loving those long beach days, the warm breezes, and the never-ending sunlight. But with the heat comes a need to quench your thirst, and what better way to do so than with a cocktail that both compliments and cools. Experiment with this summer’s newest alcohol releases, complete with every fruity flavor from coconut to apple.

It’s not called sweet summertime for nothing, and UV vodka encapsulates that exact mood with their new flavor, UV Sugar Crush. With a tropical and candy-like taste, UV Sugar Crush was inspired by retro candies to appeal to an every day sweet tooth. Having an aroma of bubblegum mixed with an array of fruit, this launch is one you definitely don’t want to miss.

What’s fruit without a little kick? Three Olives vodka takes a traditional fruity spirit and adds some spice with their new Jacked Apple flavor. Combining the essence of both red apple and cinnamon, this vodka is ideal for when you’re winding down after one of many scorching summer days. At only $21 per 750-ml bottle, there’s no excuse not to take a taste of this bold blend.

If you’re into sipping something a little sweeter, give Hawaiian-based Kai Vodka a try. Specializing in rice-based spirits, the brand has introduced several unique tastes to the U.S. market for about $24.99 a bottle. Lemongrass, Lychee, Ginger, Coconut—these flavors will enhance any if not all of your summer cocktails. Don’t fill like being a bartender? Go at it alone and knock back a Kai Vodka shot to take your taste buds on a trip.

We all know that margaritas are a summer staple, especially if made with premium tequila like Patrón. This season, the world’s best-selling tequila has finally crafted a triple sec to help you master your marg making skills. At 80 proof, Patrón Citronge has the subtle aroma of orange with a slightly sweet aftertaste, and at $20 a bottle, we think this new addition added to Patrón’s traditional tequila will make for an epic combination.

For those of you gin and tonic lovers out there, get ready to experience Tanqueray’s Old Tom Gin. Launching late this June, the new limited-edition beverage combines the flavors of original, “malty Dutch genevers” with more Juniper, dry style gins. Created by none other than leading distiller, Tom Nichol, Old Tom will definitely be something to write home about.

Compared to traditional Tanqueray, Old Tom Gin is lighter, sweeter and very exclusive. Inspired by a 19th century recipe belonging to brand founder Charles Tanqueray, there will only be 100,000 individually numbered bottles of Old Tom available around the world, primarily in top bars.

So keep your eyes peeled and don’t forget to look out for Old Tom’s vintage bottle design based on the classic 1921 label.

Skyy Blue Velvet

Looking for a way to give back this holiday season? Skyy Vodka and the American Foundation for AIDS Research have partnered up to give you the perfect opportunity. Together they have redesigned Skyy’s customary cobalt blue bottle into a Blue Velvet Limited Edition bottle that is perfect for all your seasonal festivities. By making a few cocktails you can donate to the fight against AIDs at the same time. We think it’s a great chance to participate in some gift giving this winter – after all, we’re going to buy the vodka anyway.

The Handmade Cocktail Company has announced the release of their Experimental Series, premixed and ready to drink versions of some of the most classic cocktails. The cocktails made with top-notch spirits come in an elaborately labeled bottle complete with all the information and serving ideas you need to appreciate your pre made beverage. We appreciate the convenience of a quality cocktail ready to go whenever the desire strikes us – which of course, could be anytime. (PS. Worth noting that this isn’t your Parrot Bay Pouch, its high-end, classy, good stuff, aka expensive.)

Thanks to the folks at LetsPour, you can now order your favorite craft beers right from your phone. You can’t always be at your computer but does that mean you should miss out on the most sought after craft beers? LetsPour says definitely not. At the rate in which beers sell out you no longer have to worry about missing out on the most popular and hard-to-find beers. By downloading the free ‘LetsPour Deals’ app the brews can be on their way to your front door instantly. Convenient right? We think so too. The negative: it’s only on Android.

Two Firemen sitting on the side of a hill… no – this isn’t a clever pun, it’s a true story. In 2000, a couple of L.A. firemen resolved to create a beer that would “Extinguish Your Thirst”. Thus, they brought us the Fireman’s Brew, which donates a portion its profits to the National Firefighters Foundation in Maryland. Until now the handcrafted microbrews have been available in Colorado, Illinois and California but in November the line is pairing up with Alliance Beverage Distributing Co, to bring the beer to Arizona. If you’re ever in the area, support a good cause and “Ignite the Party!”

Absolut has released their latest “sparkling fusion”, Absolut Tune. As of a few weeks ago this combination of white wine and Absolut Vodka is on shelves here in the U.S. Grabbing the attention of Absolut fans is the unique packaging – the bottle that Absolut enthusiasts have come to know and love has been replaced with a double-layered champagne shaped bottle. We think Tune is definitely worth a try. Let us know how you feel about unwrapping this new bubbly vodka.

What better way to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War than with a beer? It seems that the Monocacy Brewing Company agrees. Their slightly hoppy Antietam Ale, created with beer recipes from the 1800s in mind, is now available on tap. What makes this even better is that it’s only the first of 9 beers to honor the occasion. Even if you’re not a history buff there’s got to be one you’ll try. And if you are, make sure to grab one before your battle reenactment.

Demeter wants you to smell like a cocktail with their Frozen Margarita Cologne. Everyone enjoys an icy margarita on their beach getaway (or every day during the summer), but we prefer to drink our margaritas, not wear them. We aren’t quite sure if this odd spray is meant for men or for women, but give it a try and let us know what you think.

Things just got a whole lot easier for every over-stuffed college apartment refrigerator. Platform Tavern has created The Pole-Axed brew, a beer that won’t freeze. It was designed specifically for workers in super cold climates… like Antarctica cold. By raising the ABV on this dark beer, we can all benefit – and you can stop worrying about forgetting those beers in the freezer.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade has introduced a limited edition winter variety mix-pack (as do almost all beer and ready-to-drink brands). Why we’re talking about this one? One of their new flavors is Mike’s Hard Chocolate Cherry. We’re just going to spit it out – we think this sounds gross. There’s a reason that this is the only flavor that isn’t offered in its own 6-pack. If anyone has tried it please tell us how it really is.
With all of the moonshine buzz and white whiskey talk, we still haven’t noticed a lot of people drinking the stuff. That might all change with Jack Daniels un-aged whiskey. Until now it seems that some micro-distillers want to release un-aged whiskey so that they have something to push while their other whiskey is still in barrels. That’s not the JD style. They are serious about their products and we’ve seen them change the game once already with their Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey; we know they can do it again.

Now that Smuttynose has finished brewing all of their seasonal pumpkin beer they’ve found time in their busy schedules to churn out some limited release brews, just for fun. Can we say overachievers? Good thing they are because we get to benefit from it with Herbaceous that releases today, an amber ale made from fresh Citra hops picked directly from the vine. And to make the deal even sweeter, they’re releasing two other beers in the next two weeks, Lindz (Kolsch Malt) and Zinneke (Belgian Stout).

The 12-bottle sampler pack will be available beginning Oct. 29, featuring four bottles each of the winning brews. “Project 12” began earlier this spring when Budweiser’s 12 brewmasters across America were given the chance to create a unique brew. Six of the recipes were chosen to be brewed in small batches and then given a summer-long nationwide sampling effort where the brewmasters asked for consumer feedback to help select the final three. We’re wondering if this is Bud’s response the craft beer craze…
