5 Reasons to Drink This Weekend

5 Reasons To Drink This Weekend / September 30, 2016 / No Comments.

  1. We’re sure you’ve heard of this Black Moon nonsense that’s happening tonight and you’re probably wondering what the heck a Black Moon actually is. We’re here to fill you in. A Black Moon is the phase of the moon during which its Earth-facing side lies completely in shadow- AKA it appears as if there’s no moon. It can’t really be called a sighting, since you can’t actually see it but still- head outside tonight with any drink of choice and marvel at the moonless sky tonight.
  2. For all the Netflix lovers out there- we have some bad news. The beloved series, Psych, is leaving Netflix on October 1. So in honor of Shawn and Gus, we highly encourage one last binge sesh accompanied by a drinking game. Along with this quick-witted dreamed, Back to the Future, Mr. Deed, The Exorcist, Erin Brockovich, My Girl and more are also leaving Netflix. But don’t fret- this means they’re making more room to add new shows and movies very soon!
  3. Saturday marks the first day of October, which means Halloween is like, tomorrow, right? No matter how old you are, you can’t help but love Halloween. Costumes, booze, candy and parties- how can you NOT enjoy this holiday? It’s important to have a creative and hopefully original costume. So get your drinking- I mean thinking- caps on and start planning that costume everyone will want to copy!
  4. On a sadder note, Jose Fernandez passed away this past week in a tragic boating accident. We want to pay tribute to this amazing 24 year-old all-star pitcher. When you crack a brew open this weekend, give a little toast to him, his family and his FL Marlin teammates. He will be greatly missed.
  5. The presidential debates have started and neither candidate is holding back. This is one of the most crucial elections our country has ever seen. Which means voting is more important than ever. Make sure you register to vote whether you’re with her or you want to make America great again. Every vote matters! So continue watching these debates, brew in hand, as you witness history take place this debate season!

5 Reasons to Drink this Friday

5 Reasons To Drink This Weekend / July 29, 2016 / No Comments.

giphyWe’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Lindsay Lohan is potentially preggo: Well, maybe. Who can ever be sure with her? Rumor has it that LiLo’s dad told People magazine that his daughter texted him and said, “Daddy, I’m pregnant.” Lindsay has not confirmed. This could get a little touchy, so let’s tip our glasses and watch the drama unfold.

2. Happy Birthday Tim Gunn: The host of Project Runway is turning 63. Even if you don’t watch this cult classic, Tim Gunn is a legend in himself. Either you are in or you are out for raising a glass to this stylish man.

3. Justin Bieber’s new tune: We would jump into cold water for the Biebs any day, and we’re sure a lot of you feel the same. The new song by Justin and Major Lazer and has already been an instant hit, so if you haven’t heard it, listen to it now or forever hold your peace. Pour one out for another great summer hit.

4. One week until the Olympics: The countdown to Rio is quickly coming to an end. The time has come to prepare to watch our country’s best athletes represent the great U S of A in the summer games.

5. Gilmore Girls: We’re definitely drinking in honor of the first trailer of the Gilmore Girls revival finally coming out. One of your favorite shows (or we hope is one of your favorite shows) is almost back. Set aside some time this November to binge-watch Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix.

5 Reasons To Drink This Weekend / April 15, 2016 / No Comments.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Game Of Thrones: A new trailer was released early this week teasing the April 24th premiere. If you still aren’t on the bandwagon you’ve got just over a week to catch up. Spend the next few days plotting ways to steal your friends’ HBO GO passwords.

2. Tax Day: Taxes are due and you’re either getting a big paycheck or regretting all of your life choices from this past year. Either way you deserve a nice bottle of something strong.

3. Japan: Starbucks is offering alcoholic Frappuccinos to their customers in Japan. We’d probably get to try them too if that whole Zoolander tragedy hadn’t painted us as such irresponsible coffee drinkers.

4. Kimmy Schmidt: The Netflix original series is back today with laughs and its very own branded Pinot Noir. Order yourself a bottle and buckle in for a good old fashioned binge watch.

5. Marathon Monday: Bostonians get the day off to drink beer and watch other people run next Monday. If you’re lacing up your Nikes, we wish you luck. If you’re tapping a keg, we wish you even more.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Kocktails With Khloe: We all have a new, pointless talk show to look forward to staring our favorite Kardashian. If it sounds ridiculous that’s because it is. Mix up a strong concoction if you’re planning to watch more than zero episodes.

2. Hut Swag: Pizza Hut is releasing a line of clothing and accessories to celebrate the pizza lovers of America. Because it’s impossible to tell if someone likes pizza without it plastered on his or her shirt.

3. Resolutions: You already skipped the gym twice this week. Face it. It’s over. Succumb to your need for ice-cold beer.

4. Channing Tatum: His long awaited Lip Sync Battle episode aired this week complete with a Frozen dress, Beyoncé and NSFW dancing. It was a tornado of beauty and talent that left nothing but crushed spirits in its wake.

5. Netflix: The streaming titan announced its plan to expand to 190 countries in 2016, thus reducing the risk of a Taken scenario by 700%. You can’t get abducted abroad if you never leave your room.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. March Madness: Is your bracket already embarrassing you in front of your co-workers? Beer is one pick that will never let you down.

2. Coach Taylor: Prepare your couch and your mini-fridge. Netflix released a new show today called ”Bloodline” starring our favorite high school football coach. Clear eyes, full cups, can’t lose.

3. Nevada Laws: Nevada proposed a bill this week that would allow pets to use medical marijuana. Wilfred has never been more real.

4. One Direction: Zayn is leaving the popular boy band’s tour due to “stress”. Some speculate that he’s having trouble with his engagement, but we’re just trying to figure out which one is Zayn.

5. Spring: Despite the freezing temps and snow that still haunt most of the East Coast, spring is here! And you know what they say: Spring is here, Have a beer. Or something like that…

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1.) Saint Patrick’s Day: It’s one of the nations biggest drinking holidays next Tuesday and many cities are planning their celebrations this weekend. Whether you plan on attending a parade in Boston, Chicago or your own backyard, throw one back for good ole Saint Patty!

2.) Netflix:  Now in 36% of US households, binge watching is slowly taking over the nation. This weekend cheers to the service/app that got us through this unbearable winter!

3.) NFL Free Agents: This week we saw a firestorm of NFL fans unleash on social media when some star players moved to rival teams. At least this weekend you can drink away your sorrows while burning your favorite jersey.

4.) Apple Watch Event: In true Apple style the brand held an event this week to introduce new products such as the Apple Watch and the reinvented MacBook. How did we have any fun before Apple…oh right we had booze back then too!

5.) Frozen 2:  Men, women and children alike rejoiced when Disney officially announced their plan to create a sequel to the beloved film. There are no release dates or production details available to the public just yet, but we will be sure to celebrate with some icy cocktails this weekend.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. HBO: It was big news this week when HBO announced a standalone streaming service. Share your last beer with the ‘friend’ you only kept around for his HBO GO password.

2. Lollipop: Android’s newest software release is more than just a fun name. Promising more control and consistency across devices, we wouldn’t mind trying a taste of what they’ve got.

3. Bangs: Beyonce got a haircut. We’re gonna need a few drinks before we tell her how we really feel about it.

4. Royals: Kansas City is heading to the World Series for a chance to win their first title since 1985 (cue: Bowling For Soup). Paul Rudd was so excited that he invited every Royals fan to a kegger at his mom’s house. And suddenly everyone in the world was on team KC. (Shout out to the Giants who are also headed to the Series. Call us when one of your celeb fans throws a rager).

5. Friends: Netflix announced this week that in 2015 the entire series of Friends will be available to stream. That reminds us of The One Where You Didn’t Go Out To The Bar For 3 Months Because You Were Binge Watching 10 Seasons of Friends.

Her Shot: Cocktails For Hermits

Cocktails / June 18, 2014 / No Comments.

So many women have a lot on their plates and they almost feel guilty when they want to spend a night just vegging on the couch without any responsibilities. Well, ladies, we’re giving you permission to chill out. Why? Because this week is National Hermit Week, and it would be a real shame if you missed out on something so important.

When we go into hermit mode, we usually read, watch something on Netflix, or sit on Pinterest until our eyes start to blur. If any or all of those ideas sound good to you, we want to make sure you have a proper cocktail while you’re in hiding. Here are some cocktails we recommend for National Hermit Week:

If you’re going to stay home and read…

You’re going to need a literary-themed cocktail, naturally. We love the Gin Gimlet, a classic cocktail you’ll find throughout The Great Gatsby.

  • Add a few ice cubes to a short glass
  • Pour in 1.5 oz. of gin, 1 oz. sweetened lime juice, and top with soda water.
  • If you’re really not a gin fan, you can swap it out for vodka or tequila instead.

If you’re going to binge watch your favorite show on Netflix…

If you’re binge watching a show right now, we’re guessing it’s Orange is the New Black because everyone else in America is doing the same thing. Make this fun Orange is the New Black-themed cocktail. By the way, this recipe makes 8 drinks, so you may want to adjust these recipe measurements accordingly since hermits don’t really invite friends over.

  • In a small pot, pour in 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and add 3 or 4 fresh mint leaves.
  • Stir everything and allow it to simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then remove from heat and allow it to cool.
  • Pluck the mint leaves out and discard. This is going to be your simple syrup.
  • In a freezer proof container, mix the simple syrup you just made with 12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed) and 12 oz. frozen lemonade concentrate (thawed). Cover the container and put it in the freezer for at least 4 hours.
  • Take the orange mixture out of the freezer and use a fork to rake the surface and create some slush. Spoon 1/3 of a cup of your orange slush into a cocktail glass and top that with a shot of rum. Fill the rest of the glass with sparkling water or soda.

If you’re going to surf Pinterest for hours…

Those ladies on Pinterest think they’re so awesome, don’t they? Well you are just as good as them – better, even – so we found a pretty complicated cocktail recipe that will make you feel very accomplished when you’re done. That way you can surf Pinterest with pride knowing that you have mad cocktail skills.

  • This recipe requires that you make a roasted raspberry syrup and broiled grapefruit juice before the cocktail, so click on the link above for those instructions.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 1/4 oz. rye, 3/4 oz. broiled grapefruit juice, 3/4 oz. lemon juice, 1/2 oz. roasted raspberry syrup, a barspoon of apple cider vinegar, a dash of coffee pecan bitters, and a dash of bergamot bitters.
  • Shake well and strain into a glass over ice. Top with soda water.
