Where to Drink: The Movie Theater

Featured Story / August 8, 2017 / No Comments.

giphy-4Physically going to the movie theater has become such a rare thing nowadays with the quick turnover from the box office to iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, etc. But picture having an iMAX screen in front of you, sitting in a recliner, and having dinner and drinks served to you. Sounds too good to be true, right?

Remember when movie theaters had those awful, uncomfortable chairs? And drinks were limited to sodas and Icee’s? Well, times have changed, my friend. And for the better.

Movie theaters have upped the anti with a whole new look and atmosphere. Complete with a full bar, food menu, and larger chairs (that also recline!). Here are a few theaters in Massachusetts where you can watch, eat, and get a ‘lil tipsy.

1. Chestnut Hill Showcase SuperLuxgiphy-5

With a full cocktail bar/lounge, restaurant, and complimentary popcorn, this place is made for the ultimate date night or GNO.

2. AMC Framingham Premium Cinema and Grille

Yeah, it’s a movie theater with a built in grille made for adults only (21 & up, HOLLA). No obnoxious teens or youngins to ruin your night out. Just recline and dine.

3. The Strand Movie House and Grille

Another theater with a built in restaurant, The Strand is a great place to go if you don’t want to pay $20 for the luxury theater experience. Here, it’s only $5.50 a movie plus 5 lb. burgers available and beer from Watchusett Country and Wormtown. It doesn’t get much better, folks.

4. Somerville Theatergiphy-6

Since 1914, this theater was one of the first in the area to serve wine and beer (the OG, if you will). Their selections include Harpoon Munich Dark– a rarity in its own. Matinees are only $7 and evening shows are $10.

So get off your couch and go see a movie on the big screen and get buzzed somewhere else besides your own living room (you know it’s about time).

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT’S GROUNDHOG DAY!

Our Stories / February 2, 2016 / No Comments.

In honor of this pointless holiday, we’re taking a moment to reflect on one of the great movies Bill Murray has brought us. The infamous film he made in 1993, Groundhog Day, directed by Harold Ramis, follows Bill Murray’s character (who is aptly named Phil) as he lives the same day over and over again. According to Ramis, Murray lives through this torture for 10 whole years. Over this time, he obviously gets more and more frustrated, resulting in quite a lot of risk-taking. However, one of the more tame activities he partakes in is having a drink with his coworker/love interest. So, as we dwell in the fate that Punxsutawney Phil has bestowed upon us, we’ll be sipping on Sweet Vermouth on the Rocks with a Twist.

The Groundhog Day Vermouth Cocktail
Pour sweet vermouth over ice into a Double Old-Fashion cocktail glass. Stir and twist lemon peel over the glass. Thank the dear lord that every day is a new one.

5 Reasons to Drink This Weekend

5 Reasons To Drink This Weekend / April 17, 2015 / No Comments.

Hillary

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

1. Playoffs: You’ve got the first rounds of NHL and NBA playoffs to look forward to this weekend. That’s a lot of sports. But hey, you aren’t playing. Relax on the couch and watch amazing happen.

2. Election Talk: Hillary, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio have already begun their 2016 presidential campaigns. Get ready for a year and a half of them cutting each other down during commercial breaks.

3. Gisele Bundchen: The world famous supermodel walked down her last runway this week after 20 years in the biz. She will now begin her reign as the hottest retired person in the history of the world.

4. The Force: The new Star Wars trailer was released this week sending nerds into hyperdrive. Here’s hoping for way less incest in the plot this time around.

5. WikiLeaks: They posted a searchable database of all of that controversial Sony stuff that leaked a few months ago. Search a curse word and take a drink for every email that pops up.

Drink Like James Bond

Beer / January 6, 2015 / No Comments.

Belvedere Vodka

The world’s favorite alcoholic is switching up his drink of choice. No, Homer isn’t trading in his Duff for a Duff Light. James Bond is making his shaken martini with Belvedere vodka for his next film, Spectre. The partnership was recently made official and you can see the result all over the Belvedere website and bottle.

In the past, Bond has featured Smirnoff, Absoult, and other well-known brands in his glass. Most recently, he took a swig of Heineken, which incited more than a little outrage from his fan base. You can’t really blame them, though. How are we supposed to take a womanizing super agent seriously when he’s drinking beer from a green bottle?

Next time you’re at the liquor store, pick up a bottle of Belvedere to wet your lips. It’s the closest you’re gonna get to kissing a Bond Girl.

We’re not the type of people who need a reason to drink. If we’re breathing that’s reason enough. But for those who need more, here you go:

  1. SUMMER: Yes we’ve been feeling the heat all along, but this Saturday marks the official beginning of the summer season. So celebrate this year’s summer solstice with something yummy (and preferably chilled) to sip on.
  2. U.S.A. vs. Portugal: These two impressive teams compete against each other in the World Cup on Sunday. What better way to cheer on our great nation’s soccer skills than with a cold beer in hand?
  3. Happy Birthday Prince William: With his new family in the spotlight and his adorable son as a paparazzi target, we’re sure William will be toasting to his 32nd birthday with a fair share of libations. Join in and raise a glass to our royal neighbor across the pond.
  4. Jersey Boys…the movie: As the notorious Broadway musical approaches it’s ninth year on the stage, Jersey Boys has been made into a feature film directed by the reputable Clint Eastwood. If you find yourself at the theater for its premiere this evening, don’t forget to experience the tunes with a classic cocktail, or really anything that will get you to dance and sing along.
  5. Cue the Fried Food: Treat yourself this Sunday, because National Onion Rings Day is upon us. After a weekend full of excitement (and probably a good amount of alcohol), we know that you’re probably pining for something that will please your taste buds. So get ready, it’s almost time to indulge in a fried feast.
