fwx-rogue-wasted-sea-star We are sure it’s no surprise that drinking is definitely our favorite way to support a good cause. Just this past week Rogue Ales introduced a colorful new way to put our drinking habits to good use with their newest novelty ale-with-a-cause: Wasted Sea Star Purple Pale Ale. The name of this new brew is actually much more literal than you would think, especially considering that the ale is actually purple in color, crafted with purple corn nectar.

With this new release the Seattle brewery is bringing to our attention Sea Star Wasting Syndrome, a pandemic that is killing millions of sea stars along the Pacific Coast and across the United States. The disease is the largest recorded in marine animal history and is affecting sea stars in coastal habitats as well as aquariums.

This cause is one near and dear to Rogue’s heart, considering that they are based in the small fishing town of Newport, OR. They are looking to raise awareness for this horrible disease that has the potential to wipe out our star shaped friends, and seriously effect the ecosystems the creatures currently reside in. Rouge has also stated on their website that “A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer will go towards the research of Sea Star Wasting Syndrome.” We’re looking forward to making a toast to Rogue brewery if we can get our hands on the limited release of Wasted Sea Star Purple Pale Ale, because when it comes down to it, Sponge Bob would be nothing without his side kick Patrick.
