Sarasota, Florida will be celebrating their liberation from one pesky blue law this morning, hopefully with mimosas. This past week the County lifted the ban on liquor sales before noon on Sundays.

All the patrons and tourists who made their way to brunch prior to this week in Sarasota, were unfortunately prohibited from ordering a Bloody Mary to accompany their scrambled eggs. Blue Laws vary by state and were originally created in the 1600s to enforce religious standards. Over 400 years later many states still enforce the law prohibiting the sale of alcohol before noon on Sunday, including Massachusetts, New Mexico and North Carolina. So, this morning at brunch we will be sure to toast to all the happy folks in Sarasota, who can now start Sunday Funday a little bit earlier.
