We can’t say enough how much we love drinking for a cause. That’s why we were pumped when we received a bottle of Salute American Vodka to taste. One dollar of every bottle sold goes to help veterans, a great excuse to give it a try. Plus we love the patriotic packaging.
At first taste Salute American was dry and harsh, compared to nicer (read: more expensive) vodka that we’ve tried. We sipped it straight and there was a quick burn as it was going down. Needless to say, not something we’ll be enjoying neat or on the rocks.
We moved on to their signature cocktail, The Salute Sparkler, and were much more pleased. It’s a refreshing and light mix that would be great for the summer months. We all agreed the vodka tasted better mixed in a cocktail, since drinking it neat was a little rough. Here’s the recipe:
- 1.5oz Salute American Vodka
- .75oz Triple Sec
- 1oz cranberry juice
- 1oz lemonade
- Lime wedge
- Splash of soda water
Mix ingredients together in a martini shaker with ice. Pour in martini glass and top with a splash of soda water. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy.
If we were shopping in the Salute American price range ($22) we would buy it – but it’s not our first choice to sip on the rocks.
