Hop FieldThe Great Frozen Hops Experiment is underway in South Dakota, where Dakota Hops is claiming that their frozen hops add more flavor and aroma than when they’re not frozen. Apparently this is particularly true when used for finishing and dry hopping. It’s an expensive process, but already 15 breweries have signed on to try brewing with frozen hops (like Great Basin Brewing Co., High Sierra Brewing Company and Deschutes Brewer).

Snoop Lion may have made Gin and Juice popular back in 1993, but Florida breweries Gravity Brew Lab and Cigar City BrewPub are laaaaid back, sippin’ on something a little different in 2013: Gin and Juice Beer. The double IPA is aged for 45 days before being transferred to Gin barrels for another 3 months. The release date has not yet been set for this unique brew, but we’re definitely curious.

Opening in September, Mad Bomber Brewing Co. is looking to make a name for itself in the Idaho state beer scene.  The company is part owned by three Army explosive ordinance technicians; aka their job is to disarm bombs before they have the chance to detonate. Their beer line-up includes typical American brews, each named for friends who were killed while serving overseas in Afghanistan. Cheers to you Mad Bomber Brewing Co.
