LordOfTheRings

Back in the day, being a geek used to be considered sort of a negative label. Geeks wore pocket protectors, thick glasses, and got atomic wedgies on the regular. However, in the last few years, people have begun to embrace their geekier sides (come on, we all have one) and it’s almost become cool to be a geek. Almost.

So cool, in fact, that Spain decided to institute an annual Geek Pride Day back on May 25, 2006. They chose the date because May 25, 1977 was when Star Wars was released and it’s also Towel Day (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and the Glorious 25th of May (Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. Cool, right? When we heard about this holiday, we knew we had to a) let you know and b) give your some cocktail recipes so you can celebrate your inner geek in the best way possible.

The One Ring

We avoided reading the Lord of the Rings books when we were younger because well, we avoided reading any books. However, when the movies started to come out, we let our inner geek shine. The One Ring is actually a shot, so it’s a good way to celebrate the holiday, but get rid of the evidence fairly quickly if you’re a little embarrassed.

  • Rim a shot glass with sugar, preferably yellow sugar.
  • Pour in 1/2 oz. chilled Aftershock Cinnamon Schnapps and layer 1 oz. Galliano.

Iron Man

If you don’t like Marvel, then there is something wrong with you. Tony Stark can drink anyone under the table, but this Iron Man cocktail is your chance to prove yourself to him.

This drink is in layers and involves no mixing, so add the ingredients in this order:

  • 1 part grenadine
  • 1 part cranberry juice
  • 2 parts orange juice
  • 2 parts Scotch

The Mutagen Cocktail

Think you’re not a geek at all? There’s no way you aren’t at least a little excited for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed cocktail.

  • Rim your glass with green pop rocks or green sugar
  • Add 1/2 oz. Midori, 1.5 oz. pineapple rum, and 2 oz. Aloe Mango Drink into a mixing glass and stir.
  • Pour into your glass over ice.
  • Garnish the drink with a turtle garnish: Take 1/2 a lime and add 5 toothpicks (2 arms, 2 legs and 1 head). Put a grape on each toothpick. Revel in your awesomeness.

So embrace your geeky side, man. We’re all guilty of hit.
