It’s Girl Scout cookie season, which means you’re probably getting hit from all angles by little girls and their moms begging you to “just buy one box!” Cookies are tasty, so you oblige… but after you do that a few dozen times, you suddenly wonder how your kitchen filled up with boxes and boxes of cookies. We end up putting most of them in the freezer and then whip them out when friends come over, but a California mom has come up with an idea we can get behind – pairing the cookies with wine.

Elizabeth Borsting is a publicist and blogger, as well as the mom of a 10-year-old Girl Scout. Once she figured out how well some of the cookies paired together with wine, she began to use that as a sales tactic. Apparently her daughter lives in a highly competitive cookie-selling area, so Borsting had to get gangster with her PR skills… and the wine pairing definitely fit the bill.

Borsting has sold many strangers and friends on the cookie/wine marriage and said that the wine makes the cookies taste better and also makes for a fun evening. Here are some of the pairings she recommends:

• Do-Si-Dos (aka Peanut Butter Sandwiches) with Champagne

• Dulce de Leches with a Dessert Wine

• Thin Mints with Cabernet

• Samoas (aka Caramel Delights) with a good Port

We wish our moms had been this smart when we were selling Girl Scout cookies, but we’re more than happy to reap the benefits of Borsting’s ingenuity as adults. Now that we think of it, she deserves her own patch – maybe of a wine bottle and a cookie? We’ll let someone else handle it… it’s hard to sew when you have a glass of wine in one hand and a cookie in the other.
