Whether you’re dreaming of a white Christmas or actually getting one, December has everyone thinking about snow. If you’re not able to build a snowman or participate in some winter sports—or if you’re hibernating on your couch because the blizzards came early—we have a cocktail to sweeten your day. Since we’re also approaching the anniversary of the publication of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, this drink originates across the pond.
The Snowball
Traditionally the Snowball is made with advocaat, but if you can’t find it pre-made, you can easily whip up your own.
Ingredients
- 50ml advocaat
- 10ml Fresh Lime Juice
- Top soda or Lemonade
Advocaat
- 1 egg
- 30mls sugar syrup (or simple syrup)
- 60mls brandy
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Mix advocaat ingredients well until the mixture is thick and smooth—about the consistency of eggnog. Then add lime juice and shake and strain into an ice filled Hi-Ball glass. Top with soda or a dash of lemonade if you like your drinks on the sweet side. Garnish with a lime wedge and a dash of nutmeg and enjoy.
If you have one too many and need to lie down, just tell everyone you’re making a snow angel (hint: this works best if there’s actually snow).
