Johnny Appleseed, the legendary folktale character who walked the earth in his bare feet, is commemorated today! We all know the story of the pioneer who sowed apple seeds with a tin cooking pot during his journey throughout the mid-west, but what the folktale did not explain is that Johnny intentionally sewed those seeds to produce hard cider back in the late seventeen hundreds. So cheers to a brilliant man with a plan, he has created quite “the buzz.”

Hard apple cider is the perfect go-to if you are looking to play, but not play too hard. It is also a delicious alternative for those who dislike the aftertaste of beer or are part of the gluten-free society.

Here are three of our favorite hard apple ciders for today’s holiday:

Square Mile Hard Cider
Made with the most delicious Red Delicious apples of the northwest, this Portland company stands out from the rest with a crispy, less sweet taste. They also have a “hoppy” version if you are looking for a more bitter bite to your cider.

Angry Orchard Hard Cider
This is always a good tap option at the bar, especially if you are branded with a gluten allergy. Angry Orchard also has a variety of different flavors, we have gone with the crisp, spicy flavor, Cinnful Apple!

Johnny Appleseed Hard Apple Cider
And last but not least comes Johnny Appleseed Hard Apple Cider. Crisp and sweet, it is exactly what is says it is.
