Today, June 4th, is a great day for many reasons.

On this day, in 1919, the Women’s Rights Amendment (Number 19) is approved by The U.S. Congress.

It’s the birthday of Freddy Fender, Hardy Boy Parker Stevenson, Russell Brand and Angelia Jolie.

Last but certainly not least, today is Cognac Day — or Free Cognac Day, as it is known around here, as we receive tempting samples to blog about, like Conjure Cognac. The spicy, fruity finish was a nice surprise to the burn in the initial taste. When paired in a cocktail the flavor is smooth and almost sweet.

Here are a few cocktails Conjure recommends:

Temptation

• 1 ½ oz. Conjure Cognac

• 5 blackberries

• ¾ oz. orange liqueur

• 1 oz. passion fruit juice

Muddle all ingredients, shake with ice and strain if desired. Garnish with an orange slice.

The Georgia Peach White Tea

• 1 1/2 oz. Conjure Cognac

• 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice

• 3/4 oz. simple syrup

• 1 oz. organic peach flavored white iced tea

• Splash ginger beer

Fill a mixing glass with ingredients, shake and strain over fresh ice cubes. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a mint sprig.

Cognac, for the record, is an expensive brandy named after the town of Cognac in France. It is made from doubly distilling white wine made from Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche or Colombard grapes.

Cognac is also brilliantly used in the kitchen. As cdkitchen.com tells us, it’s used in everything from seafood, to cookies, to risotto.

How will you celebrate cognac day? Straight up? With a cognac-flavored cigar? Cognac-infused coffee? How about a little cognac-infused sugar on your cereal? Or all of the above?
