The days are getting longer, the temperature is rising, and with every passing day, we’re getting closer to the dog days of summer. Late nights of dancing on tables and ripping tequila shots may be behind you (or maybe they’re not), but that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your adventurous side. Enter Soltado, the spicy tequila that will add even more heat to your summer drinking habit. Made in the lowlands of Juanacatlan, Mexico, Soltado is distilled using a top-secret process by a co-op distillery run by 80 farmers and their families. We’ve heard it’s fierce and it’s bold, but we got our hands on a bottle to see for ourselves.

At first glance, the bottle definitely deserves a gold star for presentation. Talk about tall, dark, and handsome. While it definitely doesn’t look like your average bottle of tequila, we don’t think that’s a bad thing. Slightly reminiscent of the Hunger Games, its logo shows a bird taking flight; this truly embodies the meaning of “soltado,” which translates from Spanish to “unleashed” in English. As far as the smell, taste, and finish, there’s one word that best describes the whole experience: hot. Our taste-testers broke a sweat, but they were definitely happy about it. While you may want to steer away from drinking it straight, try one of their cocktail recipes if you really want to be blown away.

Find it on shelves near you for $39.99 a bottle (40% ABV).
