Summer-Wine-on-Ice

It’s hard to believe the end of summer is just around the corner when many of us are still trying to beat the overwhelming heat and humidity that tends to linger in the end of August. If you happen to be a late bloomer and have yet to find your ideal summer drink, we have a recommendation for you.

Believe it or not, vino – both white and red –is ideal for sipping in the warm weather. According to the Los Angeles Times, there’s no harm in throwing a bottle of wine into a cooler full of ice, as long as you keep these few rules in mind, “for the whites, nothing too rich or oaky. And for reds, nothing too tannic.”

Now we know some to you may still think a frozen cocktail is the better option when considering that a glass of wine doesn’t stand a chance in 90-degree heat. However, with the help of Kim Crawford’s Reusable Wine Gems, you can keep a refreshing glass of wine chilled without watering it down.

So over the next few weeks while you cheers to the dogs days of summer and the kiddos finally heading back to school (aka the silver lining), we suggest throwing a bottle of wine on ice. Check out these five wines recommended for warm weather sipping by expert and wine columnist S. Irene Virbila!
