You know you’ve made it in the whiskey world when you can release your own collections featuring antique whiskeys or spirits created by the “masters.” Only the best of the bunch can put out these collections along with the reputation to back them up. Here are a few to look forward to in 2013.
This year marks the 125th anniversary of Four Roses. The Kentucky bourbon brand started in 1888 and has been distilling great bourbon ever since. To celebrate their landmark anniversary, Four Roses is releasing two special spirits: Single Barrel Limited Edition 2013 and Small Batch Limited Edition: 125th Anniversary. The single barrel ($70) is made from their special recipe and aged 13 years. The small batch is a bourbon lover’s dream though. A blend of three different aged bourbons that’s bottled at 110 proof ($90). We can speak from experience; Four Roses is the real deal. These limited edition anniversary offerings are sure to be worth the price sticker.
Coming this November, Woodford Reserve Bourbon will be adding to its popular, yet exclusive Master’s Collection. The latest additions to the series are known as The Double Malt Selections. The pair includes a straight malt whiskey aged in new barrels and a classic malt whiskey matured in used barrels, letting you decide which tastes better. Also, the bottles are individually numbered so you know you’re getting the highest quality. You better be at $100 a bottle. Our birthday is coming up, any takers?
Every year Buffalo Trace digs into their whiskey vault and puts together a collection of aged and exceptional spirits. This year’s 2013 Antique Collection will feature five limited edition whiskies: Eagle Rare 17 Year Old, George T. Stagg, Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye and William Larue Weller. Each whiskey features a different flavor profile, age time and characteristics at $70 per bottle. We can’t wait to buy the collection and try all five.
