SpicedSangria

There’s no denying it now, fall is in full swing. While you’re worried about stocking up on sweaters and switching from iced coffee to pumpkin lattes, our biggest concern is how we’re going to take our summer sangria into the autumn season. We found the perfect recipe that adds a little bit of spice for a great fall drink. Here’s what you need:

Spiced Syrup

  • 1 quart water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 star anise
  • 1 vanilla pod (or vanilla extract)
  • 6 thin slices ginger

Sangria

  • Spiced syrup
  • 2 bottles of red wine
  • 2 apples
  • 2 quarts orange juice
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • Ice

In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, vanilla and ginger. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 10 minutes. Take syrup off the heat and let sit for a half hour. When it’s cool, strain and add to a large punch bowl. Stir in wine, cut apples, orange juice and lime juice. Serve over ice.

This sangria will be a hit at your next fall soiree. And best of all you can serve it at Thanksgiving and Christmas too. Cheers.
