Ah, the grapefruit. What other piece of fruit offers a tasty twist of both tart and sweet flavors? Sure, you may consider the citrus to be warm weather fare, but seeing as February is National Grapefruit Month, we’re making a special exception. After all, it is flu season, and the extra vitamin C from this nutrient dense juice will only help your cause.
Ruby Red & Rosemary Honey Cocktail (1 serving)
Honey simple syrup:
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup water
Ingredients per drink:
- 2 oz. fresh ruby red grapefruit juice
- 2 ½ oz. vodka or gin
- ½ small lemon, juiced
- ½ to ½ oz. honey simple syrup
- dash of sea salt
- 2 to 3-inch sprig of rosemary
First, make the honey simple syrup. Pour honey and water into a small saucepan and warm over medium heat. Whisk to blend the honey into the water. After a couple of minutes remove from heat.
In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, mix together grapefruit juice, liquor, lemon juice and honey simple syrup. Add sprig of rosemary and a dash of sea salt. Shake vigorously until concoction is chilled, then strain into a martini glass and garnish with a rosemary sprig.
