In 2007, the U.S. declared September to be National Bourbon Heritage Month, calling it America’s “native spirit.” Just another made up holiday that must be celebrated. And we plan on doing just that. As much as we love an Old Fashioned, we decided to go the nontraditional route to honor bourbon.
Admiral Schley’s Punch first appeared in the late 1940s and has become the perfect bourbon cocktail for the crisp fall weather. Lime and sugar keep the punch sweet while the bourbon and rum bring a warm spice to the flavor. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 oz. dark rum
- 1 oz. bourbon
- 1 lime
- 1 tsp. sugar
- Mint sprig
- Pineapple wedge (optional)
Peel the lime and add zest to cocktail shaker. Add all of the lime juice to shaker along with rum, bourbon and sugar. Pour over ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Add a pineapple wedge for a citrus touch.
