Unless you’re living under a rock, we’re pretty sure you’re aware that there is a big game going down tonight. For years chicken wings, over-hyped half time shows, and cases of beer have been stereotypically associated with Super Bowl Sunday. However, a good host never limits beverage options, and if you happen to not be a big beer drinker yourself we are here to reassure you that it’s OKAY to have a cocktail or sip on a glass of wine while cheering on 300 pound line backers in tight pants.

As a matter of fact many different wines will actually balance spice and cut through fat much better than a cold beer would. For example, chilled Prosecco is even better when sipped with salty snacks such as potato chips, peanuts and popcorn. The typical heavier main dishes such as meatballs, ribs and sausage sandwiches taste great when accompanied with a lighter red wine. And it was even a shock to us when we found out that chicken wings and Riesling are a match made in heaven.

Now if you’re looking to sip on something a little bit stronger we have a few themed cocktails to honor each team competing, and the recipes may make you second-guess tapping the keg.

12th Man Margarita (Seattle Seahawks)
• 1 and ¾ oz of Cuervo Gold Tequila
• ¾ oz of Blue Curacao
• sweet and sour Mix
• ½ a lime
Directions: Salt the rim of the glass. Squeeze half a lime into the shaker, add tequila and Curacao and top off with the sweet and sour mix. Shake with ice and pour into glass. Score lime with knife to create a football and add as garnish.

Boston Side Car (New England Patriots)
• ¾ oz light rum
• ¾ oz brandy
• ¾ Triple Sec
• ½ lime, juiced
Directions: Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.

Whatever beverage you decide to enjoy while watching this evening, we hope that you enjoy the big game, the multi-million dollar commercials and whatever overly spicy appetizer you decide to munch on. Cheers and may the best team win!
