You’ve heard about it, you’ve tried it, conservative news hosts have been up-in-arms about it: marijuana.

With more and more people looking for alternatives to alcohol, and with the growing legalization of recreational weed in the United States, companies are looking for opportunities to get their product into the hands of consumers, this time without burner phones or back-alley meet-ups.

The beverage aisle has been the most recent place where we’ve seen companies make that happen. So, what’s happening in the world of cannabis drinks?

Hemp CBD-laced food, drinks become legal

What’s in a CBD Drink?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. You might be able to connect the root-word dots there to realize that it’s a component of marijuana. CBD comes without the hallucinogenic parts, and helps people relax and soothe anxiety, among other benefits. Plus, now you can drink it, which means you can partake in beverage-related festivities and likely still drive home at the end of the night.

We’ve seen CBD drinks in the form of sodas, seltzers, or juices, with whatever flavors you desire. And it turns out, people already REALLY desire it, to the tune of $14 mil in 2021.

Best Weed Drinks with THC in Massachusetts

What’s in a THC Drink?

Think: your older brother’s edibles, but drinkable, and less suspect

THC is an abbreviation for Tetrahydrocannabinol, which, if you don’t speak scientist, is the part of the cannabis plant that gets you high. Unlike their CBD counterparts, THC drinks come with the full effects of marijuana, just in a liquid form. There have been some concerns from lawmakers (lame) that consumers might not understand the effect of these drinks (for example, 3 beers might be the right amount to get you buzzed, but 3 THC drinks may be way too much, depending on the drink’s dosage and your tolerance). However, paying attention to the packaging and doing some research before partaking should get you just the right amount of high.

“Who’s selling these?” you ask. Well, a lot of established recreational marijuana brands, but even some of your grandad’s favorites (just don’t tell him that) are joining in on the fun.
