The United States, land of the free and home of the brave, is certainly well known for being a multicultural melting pot. But not only are we a proud mix of cultures, we are also a melting pot of booze and liquor varieties. BartendR, a social application for drinkers like us, wanted proof of these varied boozing preferences and to find out which areas favor what type of liquor. By analyzing posts and photos from 700,000 of their users, BartendR released a map displaying the most popular liquor in every state.

The results show us that whiskey is definitely a fan favorite here in the US. But furthermore, the results of BartendR’s research show us the go-to brands of the state. A quick glance at the map can affirm that Jack Daniel’s and Fireball are at the very top of the list… but why? What makes these two brands just plain irresistible to us American drinkers?

Jack Daniel’s is a favorite for a fairly obvious reason– its homegrown, all-American roots. Manufactured in the small town of Lynchburg,Tennessee, the whiskey is popular in states at all four corners of the US and throughout– Vermont, California, Florida, Montana, and Hawaii to name a few. Drinkers who love all things Jack Daniel’s commonly take back popular US created concoctions like a Jack and Coke (1 part Jack, 3 parts Coke) or a Jack Daniel’s Manhattan (1 part Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, 1/2 part sweet vermouth).

Fireball, also heaping in popularity across over 15 states, found its beginnings in the land of our next door neighbor, Canada. Now, manufacturing of the product takes place in Canada as well as the US. The Whisky– intentionally spelt without the “E”, the Canadian way– is so deliciously cinnamon flavored that many of us would argue a chaser isn’t necessary. But if you do want to mix it up, we’d go for an Angry Ball (1 shot Fireball, 1 pint Angry Orchard) or Dragon’s Kiss (1 part Fireball, 1 part Cranberry Juice).

While there is no doubt a person at every destination may prefer Bacardi, Jose Cuervo, or Grey Goose, we seem to be a whiskey lovin’ country.  Check out your home state’s favorite liquor with BartendR’s map and see if you truly belong. Look out for oddball states who singularly favor a certain liquor such as Maryland (Svedka), Colorado (Bacardi), Oregon (Jose Cuervo), Virginia (Grey Goose), and South Carolina (George Dickel).
