Traveling this summer? Forget overcrowded tourist destinations, here at Drinking In America we believe that there’s no better way to get a true taste of a city’s culture than by immersing ourselves in it’s bar scene. Don’t waste another second picking through (oft-hilarious) multi-paragraph Yelp reviews to find your drinking destination for the night. Check out our 2nd edition of city sips highlighting San Francisco!

One of the most highly sought-out cities in the Golden State, San Francisco is home to the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, and super trendy locals who happily endure over the top rent prices (but really who can blame them?) This glorious city definitely has it perks, especially when it comes to the night life. Whether it’s for business or pleasure, for those of you who are traveling to the city of San Fran for the very first time we have a hot watering hole recommendation for you.

Described by locals as dangerous…but only for your sobriety, Smugglers Cove is unlike all the other cheesy tourist traps! A fun fact for you the tiki bar movement was actually founded in this city, so be prepared to immerse yourself in an authentic tiki experience and one of the best Mai-Tais in the country!. All 70 specialty cocktails here have been artfully crafted as a seriously boozy tribute to rum’s 400-year history all of which brilliantly eschew the stereotypical sickeningly-sweet fruit drink you might typically associate with a tiki bar.

You can’t go wrong with any of the drinks here, but if you do want to get your night rolling quickly head straight for the Puka Punch, which goes down surprisingly easy considering the four different rums it contains. If you only have one night in the City by the Bay, we definitely recommend this island paradise as your first stop -as long as your flight out in the morning isn’t an early one!
