giphyMarch has officially arrived, which means for some of you, Spring Break (or a version of the drunken week-long vacation) is right around the corner. Sure, you’ve been busy sculpting your beach bod and saving your dough for the expensive drink orders that lie ahead, but what about training your tastebuds (and your blood alcohol level) for the copious amount of cocktails you’ll be consuming for 5(+) consecutive days? Regardless of whether you’re jetting off with friends to an overcrowded (yet tropical) all-inclusive resort, or if you’re living in the real world and pretending like you’re back in college on your family’s annual vacation, these stereotypical “Spring Break” cocktails will get you in the mood for some well deserved sunshine.

Mai Tai: (serves 1)

  • 1 oz. light rum
  • ½ oz. triple sec
  • ¼ oz. lime juice
  • 1 ½ oz. pineapple juice
  • 1 ½ oz. orange juice
  • Dash of grenadine
  • ½ oz. dark rum
  • Cherry and pineapple wedge for garnish

Pour all the ingredients except the dark rum into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an old-fashioned glass. Top with the dark rum and garnish with pineapple wedge and cherry.

Mojito: (serves 1)

  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup white rum
  • 1 cup ice
  • 2 tablespoons club soda
  • Lime slice for garnish

Mix the lime juice, sugar and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Using the end of a wooden spoon or a cocktail muddler, muddle the mint into the lime juice and sugar. Add rum, stir well and pour over ice. Top the whole thing off with club soda and a lime slice.

Hurricane: (serves 1)

  • 2 oz. light rum
  • 2 oz. dark rum
  • 2 oz. passion fruit juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 tbsp. simple syrup
  • 1 tbsp grenadine
  • Juice of half a lime
  • Orange slice for garnish

Add all the ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker and shake well. Pour into a Hurricane glass and garnish with the orange slice.

Strawberry Daiquiri: (serves 1)

  • 1.5 oz. Rum
  • 3/4 oz. lime juice
  • 1 oz. simple syrup (2 parts sugar—or Stevia for a healthier option—1 part water)
  • 1 strawberry
  • 6-10 ice cubes

In a blender, add all of the ingredients. Pulse until the mixture is smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a strawberry, cocktail umbrella, or lime slice. If you’re feeling bold, go for all three.
