Rogue-Bacon-Maple-Ale-at-Voodoo-Doughnut-Too           The combination of salty and sweet isn’t a new idea. Pairing maple and bacon has been especially popular this season—in food and drinks. This particular union is sure to put a spell on you in the form of VooDoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale from Rogue Brewery and VooDoo Doughnuts.
Hailing from Portland, Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon of VooDoo Doughnuts pride themselves on unique sugary confections. After spending time learning from the doughnut masters, they opened their own place in Old Town. Rogue started as Brew Pub in Ashland, Oregon in 1988, with the basement beneath the pub serving as the brewery. They found a bigger, second location in Newport, Oregon in 1989 where they are still brewing following their creed of brewing handcrafted beverages while doing things differently and changing the status quo.
It makes sense that these two radical companies would get together and create something great. The VooDoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale has 13 ingredients—a baker’s dozen—and includes applewood-smoked bacon and pure maple flavoring along with the malt and hops. Brewed in the style of a Brown Ale, and sold in a stylish 750ml painted bottle Rogue suggests you drink this ale with pork, dessert, and (of course) doughnuts. We look forward to trying this one because if there’s one thing we like as much as beer, it’s doughnuts.
