honey-jar

We’re known for having a thing for national days. We’ve covered the classics: National Beer Day, Martini Day, Vodka Day, Sangria Day—you get the gist. We’ve even ventured into the land of more silly days, like National Candy Cane Day and National Boss Day. But today is the day we outdo ourselves…

Happy National Don’t Step on a Bee Day folks! Just go with it.

In honor of the cunning little critters, we’ve chosen a cocktail that celebrates their very existence. This week, we make Honey Bees. While honeybees are the only type of bee to bite the dust upon stinging something, they prove a valiant existence in cultivating the delicious nectar that our boy Winnie the Pooh so loves. Props, bees.

So, to make this sweet sipper, you’ll need:

2 oz. dark Jamaican rum
½ tbsp. honey
½ oz. lemon juice
½ tbsp. warm water

Combine the honey and water in a shaker. Stir until the honey is dissolved. Add the rum and lemon juice, along with ice, and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass and enjoy. See what a little spoonful of honey can do?

P.S. Remember, no stepping on bees today. Or else.
