Traveling this summer? Forget overcrowded tourist destinations, here at Drinking In America we believe that there’s no better way to get a true taste of a city’s culture than by immersing ourselves in it’s bar scene. Don’t waste another second picking through (oft-hilarious) multi-paragraph Yelp reviews to find your drinking destination for the night. If you happen to find yourself in Atlanta this summer — our 4th edition of Summer City Sips has you covered.

Atlanta was burned to the ground in 1864 and became the Capital of Georgia after rising from the ashes. This city has so much history and culture, especially considering that it was the birthplace of the civil rights movement in America. Although there are many hot spots down in Hotlanta, if you’re looking to skip out on the generic nightlife scene and seek out something special we recommend checking out Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room and Ping Pong Emporium!

Now don’t let this somewhat misleading and long title lead you astray, this bar has been featured on several hotspots lists! Located in Atlanta, Georgia between Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Martin Luther King Center, this bar is doubles as an art gallery that sells some killer drinks and Sister Louisa’s artwork. You won’t find TV’s or Internet here, just like church! The owners actually want their customers to be social rather than just staring at the football game or snap-chatting via their smartphones. Although we find it hard to believe you’ll be bored when surrounded by World Class Ping Pong Tournaments and Church Organ Karaoke sessions (complete with church robes!)

Grant Henry, owner of this unique spot, goes by the alter ego of Sister Louisa, hence his inspiration for the elaborate name. Starting out as a bartender, he began selling his artwork on the side in 96’ and now kills two birds with one stone, selling one-of-a-kind pieces in the bar while mixing up miraculous drinks. Henry was also voted multiple times as “Atlanta’s Best Bartender.” An alter ego can sometimes seem questionable but not in this case considering this guy’s multi-talented in both the booze and art departments!

This bar is legit and offers a house specialty of Spiritual Sangria, which is supposedly the best sangria in all of Atlanta. So live a little, and make an adventure out of it as you are guaranteed to have a great time at Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room and Ping Pong Emporium!
