We all have our favorite local bars and sometimes without even realizing it, our drinking routine can get a little… predictable. It’s great to have a few pubs where you recognize everyone and can get a couple freebies, but sometimes you just need to get out there and live a little, too. We recommend you look in to one of our favorite trends of the last few years (dun, dun, dun) the Pop-Up Bar.

Pop-up bars have started to become popular because for a business owner, it really doesn’t require much of a financial commitment. They are able to set up a cool bar for a few months in a random location and they can see if that neighborhood might be good for a permanent bar. They are also able to make a ton of money in a short period of time because pop-up bars get a lot of buzz and everyone wants to hang out there before it disappears. It’s genius.

One cool pop-up bar we came across is/was called Duke’s Surf Bar in Philadelphia. If you blinked, you might have missed it because it was only in operation for one night a little over a month ago on August 16. Their one-night engagement was part of Philly Rum Week, but according to their website, they invite other locations to host their bar. “Pending proper funding,” they’re hoping to become the first Tiki bar in Philly in 25 years.

You should be able to find at least one good pop-up bar in most major cities – we’ve heard about ones in places like New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and even London. The thing is, these places generally don’t have websites and if you don’t live in the city, you probably won’t hear about it. That said, finding a pop-up bar may require a bit of detective work. That’s half the fun though, right?
