Today we raise a glass to independence, the United States of America, our founding fathers, and their love of Whiskey. In fact, the spirit was so important to our forefathers that one of the first post-war rebellions in our free country was to avoid a Whiskey tax.
We’ve come a long way since then, but one drink that still sticks with us is the Old Fashioned:
- In an old fashioned glass, mix together 1/2 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp water and 2-3 dashes of Agostura bitters
- Add a few ice cubes to the glass and stir
- Add 2oz Rye Whiskey (American, of course. C’mon, it’s the 4th of July.) and stir
- Add an orange slice
This year, enjoy the fireworks with an old fashioned in hand, we certainly will be.
