Buffalo Trace French Oaks Bourbon: Down in Kentucky, Buffalo Trace Distillery is gearing up to release one of their experimental batches of bourbon, which has been in the works for over 10 years. Back in 2005 the folks over at Buffalo Trace crafted two special aging barrels, one made entirely of French oak and another with French oak heads and American white oak staves. Both aged bourbons that came out of the experiment are said to have a very unique flavor profile, and come in at whopping 45% ABV. Be sure to act fast if you’d like to get your hands on this new release, both batches are small and have limited availability!
Euphrosine Gin #9 Barrel-Finished Reserve: A little further down south another distillery is also experimenting with barrel aging. Based out of Louisiana, Atelier Vie Distillery is taking the award winning Euphrosine Gin to another level by aging the spirit in American whiskey barrels for months! According to their President Jedd Haas, the aging process produced an “attractive amber color and mellowed flavor with whiskey notes added to the gin”. Head down to the distillery to grab a bottle, because why choose between gin and whiskey when you can have both!
Rested Expressions Vodka: With the snow finally melted up in Maine, Twenty2 vodka is heating things up and releasing a new line of infused of vodkas, including flavors such as Black Peppercorn, Organic Lemon & Orange Peel and Whole Been Coffee. The ‘Rested Expressions” line is named for the unique infusing process, completed with real, all-natural ingredients that are included right in the bottle! Sauvelle Vodka: It doesn’t get much more luxurious than this! Over in the Cognac region of the UK, Sauvelle vodka is preparing to launch in June. The vodka is said to embrace it’s name, which translates from French to English as “wild” and “beautiful”. With notes of vanilla and caramel, the vodka is made from wheat and spring water from southwestern France, and is finished once filtered over three types of wood to absorb impurities. If you happen to be partying with Prince Henry over in London sometime in the near future, be sure to order a bottle on his tab.
