trixmartini

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So why should we only enjoy it in the morning? A recent trend has our favorite sugary, childhood cereals making appearances in our after-work drinks. Whether you’re in Boston, Chicago, or LA you’re likely to find at least one bartender serving up their own cereal-inspired cocktail.

Some concoctions don’t include the actual cereal as an ingredient, but you’d never guess by the taste. Others go so far as to infuse cereal in milk or alcohol, then strain it into the glass to keep the flavor without the soggy remains. Sound like an idea you can get behind? Here are a few recipes for you to impress your friends with… or just to enjoy on your own during some Saturday morning cartoons. No judgment here.

Reese’s White Russian (makes 1)

2 oz vodka

1 oz Kahlua

2 oz Reeses’s Puff-infused cream

Infuse for 45 minutes. Combine in a glass. Garnish with more Reese’s Puffs, obviously.

Trix Martini (makes 4)

1 cup vodka

1 cup Trix cereal

½ cup whipping cream

½ cup sugar

½ cup water

¼ cup lime juice

¼ cup lemon juice

2 egg whites

2 cups ice

Let ½ cup cereal sit in vodka for 15 minutes in a bowl. Put other ½ cup cereal in cream for the same amount of time in the fridge. Boil sugar and water until sugar dissolves. Stir in strained vodka and cream after water cools. Throw away the cereal unless you’re really brave. Mix everything together and shake. A lot. Pour in a martini glass and enjoy.
