They say that Christmas comes once a year, but for us, it comes twice: December 25th and the weekend of Comic-Con International. Comic-Con started out as a tiny comic book convention in the 1970s, but it has become this massive event to celebrate all things fantasy, sci-fi, artsy and geektastic. This year’s Comic-Con kicked off this past Thursday, July 24 and it ends tomorrow, Sunday, July 27.

Attending Comic-Con is on our bucket list, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to make it out there this year. So, to make ourselves feel a little better, we did some research into the drinking scene down there. We wanted to see if there was anything we could make at home right now, as well as take note of any drinks we want to try when we finally make our pilgrimage to San Diego.

Altitude Sky Lounge, Marriott Gaslamp was the venue for the CW & BuzzFeed’s “Flash Bash” party on Friday night, so this is a hotel that’s in the middle of everything. They knew they needed some Comic-Con themed cocktails this week, so they added the Superman and Thor’s Hammer Shot. No word what’s in Thor’s Hammer Shot, but The Desert Sun did find out that the Superman is 1/2 oz. Stoli Vanilla, Blueberry, Orange, and Raspberry with a splash of white cranberry, a splash of pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine.

Manchester Grand Hyatt is going with a Marvel theme for their cocktails and they’ve got Thor’s Hammer(ed), available at their rooftop bar, The Hulkito, available in the Grand Lobby bar, and the Marvelrita, available in Redfield’s Sports Bar. Thor’s Hammer(ed) is a “fun spin” on the Long Island Iced Tea, but it sounds like The Hulkito is really just a mojito, while the Marvelrita is – shocker – a margarita. The Marvelrita is served in Marvel Comics’ signature red color though, so that makes it special.

At Andaz’s RoofTop60, they’ve got a Mario Power Up cocktail and a Beam Me Up Scotty Shot, for all those dedicated Trekkies at Comic-Con. To make the Beam Me Up Scotty Shot at home, layer 3/4 oz. Kahlua, 3/4 oz. Creme de Banana, and then 3/4 oz. Bailey’s.

Are you down at Comic-Con right now? Did you find any really cool, creative cocktails? Please tell us about them so we can live vicariously through you.
