So what exactly is it?
Here’s what you need to know:
- It must be at least 51% rye
- Rye is a complex grain that adds depth and spice
- Aged in new, charred American oak barrels
- Rye Whiskey was popular before prohibition, but basically disappeared afterwards – until now
- Old Overholt is the oldest Rye Whiskey brand
- The flavor is less sweet than Bourbon or Scotch
- Classic cocktails like Whiskey Sours, Old Fashioneds and Manhattans were originally made with Rye Whiskey
